As an adult content creator I work full time from home. I have a roughly 100 square foot studio that doubles as my bedroom. Recently I moved and got the opportunity to completely design it from the ground up. In the end I ended up finding a few hacks that I wanted to share! Here are a few apartment and budget friendly studio setup tips!
Privacy
The Problem: Letting light in, without putting on a show for the neighbors.
My room has two huge beautiful windows that let in all the daylight a creator could dream of. Those windows, however, open up to a fairly busy road and face the windows of another line of homes. So privacy became concern number one. Keeping the blinds closed all day was just out of the picture as I am dependent on seeing sunlight to function.
The Solution: Privacy window film

Window Privacy Film – Stained Glass Window Film Static Cling
This was the perfect solution! It allows the light in and is cute as all hell. I checked from the outside and nothing is visible through unless it is pretty much pressed against the window! Instillation was easy as well though I will say you will need a spray bottle and squeegy! We didn’t have those on hand and had to run and grab them so hopefully that saves you a trip!
Set Decor
The Problem: Replacing my old wall of mirrors, without spending three months income.
In my old apartment my closet doors, which were sliding wall to wall doors, were mirror. This opened up amazing opportunity for creativity in shots I otherwise wouldn’t have and I didn’t want to lose that. I had originally thought to just grab a sing giant mirror. Then I saw how much those things cost. God Dayum!
The Solution: Cheap Wall mirrors

To keep things budget friendly I instead grabbed a handful of cheap wall mirrors and collage them on the wall. This has provided the same effect without costing an arm and a leg. I bought three 2-packs and mounted five of them. The sixth I have as a floating mirror I can move around the studio.
Flooring
The Problem: Diverse flooring options without damaging the apartment
It was important in my studio design to have as many options in shooting sets and vibe changes as possible. In that pursuit, there is only so much apartment carpet can do. Rather than lean into an area rug, I wanted the hardwood look. The problem with that is a lot of the wood ‘flooring’ out there can dig into and damage the floor below it that it is set on.
The Solution: Foam Wood Flooring

Forest Floor 3/8 Inch Thick Printed Foam Tiles
I ended up finding this amazing foam wood-look flooring. I love it for the studio and ducky was gracious enough to model it for us! I got a 4 square set and float it around the room wherever needed for shooting.
