All About Reviews: The what, where, why and how for buyers, and creators

The What and Where of Reviews

What are reviews in the fetish content market?

Reviews are exactly what they sound like! Short, public, reviews of experiences with creators written by buyers. Reviews are incredibly helpful for creators and buyers alike. Genuine and honest personal reviews that you leave help us creators learn, celebrate, and grow. It also helps other buyers know who to trust, what to expect, and who to be leary of. There are so many places you can leave a review for a creator but the central hub is r/fetishbuyerscommunity.

Where can fetish market reviews be found?

There are very many places on Reddit to find reviews of creators in the fetish content market. Here are just a few examples:

Though reviews for buyers are a bit less common, they can absolutely be shared as well. Here is two:

The Why of Reviews

As a buyer: Why should I leave reviews?

Written by Cesar, a Creators Spicy Tea founder and r/fetishbuyerscommunity moderator:

Reviews are a vital part of the fetish community. They are an instrumental way to show both that the creator is legit, but also the kind of time and effort they put into their craft. While no one should ever take a review as a guarantee of service and delivery, they are imperative to building confidence and standing within the fetish community. As a buyer, your experience working with creators is incredibly valuable to everyone else. Being open and honest is paramount, and expressing not just the good, but the average and bad as well. Certain creators go out of their way to over deliver, bringing your fantasies and desires to life in a way you couldn’t even imagine, and they deserve to be applauded for it. Others are effective and efficient, doing exactly what you request, and delivering when they say they would.  And some creators struggle, missing key details, not hitting deadlines and not taking the time to make sure the quality is there. All of these deserve to be shared, both to aid other buyers so they can make informed decisions on who to purchase from, and for the creators to know the expectations that are out there, and ensure they are not delivering sub par experiences.

As a creator: Why should I get reviewed?

Creators should aim to get reviews because they stand as social proof of the quality of our businesses, just as with any business in any industry. Our industry is one that thrives and moves on word of mouth primarily. So what our customers say about their experiences with us holds weight. The more positive reviews you have under your belt the better a new potential customer will feel about deciding to work with you for the first time. I can’t begin to count the amount of times people have mentioned to me that they came to me because they saw a new review go up or how many reviews I have. Reviews are also a great area for us to learn from our clients and our clients’ experiences. We can take what was put into a review and strategize ways to improve, or even perfect what was mentioned. Think about it this way. Would you buy a wedding dress off of Amazon if it had no reviews, or would you be more willing to buy it if there were 10, 20, or 50 reviews? It just gives a little reassurance and social proof for the buyer.

The How-To of Reviews

As a buyer: How do I leave reviews?

  • Step 1: Decide where you want to leave your reviews
    • The above section labeled ‘Where can fetish market reviews be found?’ has quite a few options. If you do not have a specific subreddit in mind, the standard would usually be r/fetishbuyerscommunity or the subreddit where you found the creator (if they accept review submissions).
  • Step 2: Check review submission guidelines for that subreddit
    • These can usually be found in the community wiki, sidebar, or in a pinned comment.
    • This often will require your written review and proof of purchase which is some form of screenshot showing your financial transaction with the creator such as a payment confirmation or receipt.
      • Proof of transaction sent through modmail will have to be done through a image hosting site such as redgifs, Dropbox, or imgur. This post covers how to use redgifs as an option. You can also consider asking the creator to do this step for you and grabbing a link for you.
  • Step 3: Write your review
    • This guide goes in depth on writing effective creator reviews on r/FetishBuyersCommunity. Some of the tips in there are crucial, such as using the correct spelling of the creators username.
    • Your review should cover all aspects of your experience. Include
      • content expectations,
      • content quality,
      • content delivery and payment experience,
      • customer service and professionalism of the creator
      • and your overall enjoyment of the experience.
    • If you are wanting to include images in your review, please get consent from the creator first.
    • Be completely honest! Your opinion could be what shapes others decisions, and the creator can learn from your true honest opinions as well!
    • Be respectful, and not too graphic with the details.
      • Keep in mind the person you are leaving a review of is in fact, a person. Kindness in all aspects when possible.
      • And don’t feel the need to get too graphic with the details of the content or service.
  • Step 4: Submit your review

As a creator: How do I get reviews?

Though there is no one foolproof way to get reviews, here are some tips to help:

  • Ask for them!: A large portion of the buyers who have reviewed me were not even aware that there were reviews out there. Had I never asked for one or brought them up, they never would have known to do it. Even the buyers that do know about them may not think of it unless you bring it up.
  • Ask, don’t demand:
    • Do not demand or overly push for a review. It will make the client feel forced and uncomfortable. My interactions will generally look like this:
  • Be willing to help: Many buyers will have never done this before. Come prepared to help with things like:
    • A image host helping hand: For some buyers the added step of having to have a image hosting site account and grabbing the link for the image of the proof of transaction can be too much. Consider offering to do this step for them. Ask them to send you the screenshot proof of payment, then upload it to imgur, redgifs, etc, yourself. Then give them the link to send with their review.
    • The submission links: Many buyers might not know where to submit the review. Guide their way with the direct links they need to submit. The fewer clicks between them and the submit button the better. Here are some:
  • Assuage anonymity fears: A common deterrent we see come up is anonymity. Buyers may not want their username and their account tied to their fetish content consumption. Remind them and guide them to anonymous options.
  • Post review tips:
    • Don’t leave your reviews only where they were posted. Consider consolidating them on a pinned post on your profile, a document, or a web page (mine for example). Doing this helps not only put them in one place for consumers to browse, but also helps protect them from disappearing if a subreddit is taken down for example.
    • Thank your buyer once you see your review go up, publicly through a comment if you would like, but definitely privately through your DMs. This is just courteous etiquette.

Final Thoughts

Reviews are critical for both buyers and sellers. They help the entire community be better informed, and better connected, the help make better decisions. Leaving a review can likely be a bit daunting, and I know for sure that asking for one can be, but doing so is absolutely worth it for all of us.“
