Building a Successful FetLife Profile for Content Creation

Creators spicy tea has always believed in the wisdom of the crowd being greater than the wisdom of the individual. This resource has been created by our team member Cinanom the creator of creator resource chats.

Building Profile

Profile Picture –
This is one of the first things someone visiting your profile will look at. Unlike other social media sites you can use explicit pictures as your profile picture. Pick something that showcases you and your brand/niche. Try to avoid close up pictures of genitals as that doesn’t do much to showcase your business or you as a whole. You want to pick a picture that showcases a bit of personality or tells the viewer something about you. I personally have a picture of me walking naked down a back road. This shows the viewer a bit about my interests and gives them an idea of what kind of content I like to create

General Info –

I highly recommend filling most if not all of this out. You want to show potential clients who you are and what you’re about. Fetlife is actually very inclusive and has multiple options for each box. For the city, it is recommended that you don’t get too specific. A lot of people put Antarctica or just their State or Province to keep people from trying to find them. I’ve run into a few people who get annoyed with users who use the Antarctica location, this is ultimately up to you and how comfortable you feel disclosing your location. I am public about the fact that I am from Canada and dont mind telling people which province I’m in, so I put a random city in my province and changed the settings so only the province and country are showing (I didn’t use my real city in case of a glitch in the system). I left the “looking for” section blank as I’m not looking for any of those options and lying would be unethical..  You can fill out as much of this as you are comfortable doing.

About –

It’s hard to know the line between giving enough info and a wall of text that no one is going to read. I very much recommend having a few paragraphs about you. Use the about me to talk about your interests, your likes and your experience in the kink world. If you want to talk about your content use the last paragraph to break that down but don’t make the entire thing about how you are selling content and want to sell to the reader. The big draw to this industry is getting to know the people who are creating the porn so give the potential buyer something to bond with you over. Sellers also cause a lot of friction on the site so like I’ve mentioned before, use the site as intended, but also have your links.

Relationships –

This is an optional section, and one I left blank. If you tag a partner as being in a relationship with you on fetlife, anyone seeing your profile can go and view theirs as well. If you do tag them, make sure that their location settings match your own so you aren’t accidentally giving away too much information.

Fetishes –

This is a helpful section to fill out. People can search by fetish and find you through things you have interests in. There is a most popular section you can go through and pick out what things you are into, but you can also find more niche or specific fetishes using the search bar (type your kink into the search bar and then hit the fetishes tab to see related kinks). I recommend leaving any fetishes that you won’t do with clients off the list. For example if you enjoy anal play in your private life but refuse to do anal play for content, you should leave that off the list or people may ask you for that fetish.

Websites –

This is where you’re going to put your links. I recommend only putting one or two links. Having a huge list of links might look a little overwhelming or like a wall of text so I would have a wishlist link and a link hosting site like allmylinks or beacons. I haven’t found any links that are banned or blacklisted but be aware that could change. I have my personal website as my link and that leads back to everywhere I am so if people click it they will be able to easily find me.

Privacy

This is where we are going to make sure your profile is secure and personal information is kept safe.

Following –

This is where you will either allow or unallow people to follow your account. I recommend allowing people to follow you, and allow being recommended to potential followers. If people are following you, whenever you post it will show up on their feed and they will be reminded that you exist. Having the new followers must be approved first box ticked might become annoying so I left that one off.

Requests –

I have my friend requests set to all fetlifers but I only accept friend requests from other sex workers.  This is a choice you will have to make for yourself. I also have who can tag you in a picture or video set to all fetlifers. If I get tagged in something I want to be notified that I have potentially been posted by another account, it will make getting that content taken down easier. I have event invites set to no one because I’m not here for events and I don’t want random notifications for things I’m not interested in.

Kinky & Popular and Fresh & Pervy –

This is how you’re going to be discovered by other people on fetlife. I suggest letting all of your non private content be allowed to trend or appear on those pages.

Location Visibility –

This is going to hide your exact location from people, right below the drop down boxes you will see what people will see when they look at your profile. I have my city set to only me, state/province set to all fetlifers and country set to all fetlifers. If you have your location set to Antarctica so it doesn’t really matter but if you plan to put your actual location its important you hide all information that you don’t want the public to see. You can also now check the box so that fetlife wont display your profile in the places section. That way even if people are looking up the state/province you live in, you will not come up in those search results.

Event RSVP Privacy –

If you aren’t planning on RSVPing to any events or going to events at all, this doesn’t matter. If you want to do some local munches or something, it might be a good idea to turn this to “only me”

Inbox –

This is who is going to be able to message you. If you want to make direct sales through the website, leave it to “open”, if you want them to message you elsewhere, start looking at the other options. What you choose here is going to depend on what settings you chose for friend requests and the like. If you are open to friending anyone who adds you, keep in mind that even with the most strict settings, friends will be able to message you.

Another thing to consider under this section is the “receive pictures in PMs” I have this set to friends only because I don’t want to have random dick pics in my inbox but if you plan on sexting or receiving content through this platform you may want to leave it on. Even if you have your inbox set to open, any pictures or videos you get in your inbox will be blurred out automatically. To unblur the picture you just have to click on it.

You will want to go through the other tabs, Notifications and activity feed are personal preferences based on what you want to see and be told about, muted and blocked are exactly what they sound like.
