Physical Content Packaging in Adult Content Creation

The team and I have been noticing a lot of recent questions regarding packaging and shipping physical content. So this resource is going to be dedicated on how to package the content to prepare for shipping to the buyer. We’re going to have a couple shipping tips, but that is not what we are focusing in on. We are focusing on supplies, privacy and discretion, and extras.

A really common question we see is in terms of what extras should I put in my package. We came up with quite a few and we have scoured all of the subreddits and the comments to see what other people have done, we did go just one step extra after that though. We put up a post over on r/FetishSpicyTea and r/FetishHaven to ask both the selling and the buying members of our community what extras they have sent and received in the past. We are also going to go and touch on the importance of knowing the level of discretion your client needs. We compiled all of those here!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped with this! Meat and potatoes below!

Supplies Needed

Shipping

When shipping your physical goods you are going to need a mailer. You cannot simply put any garments or goods in an envelope. And you cannot just use a regular stamp. Some things you can use:

  • Generally sufficient for most garments and smaller packages:
    • Padded envelope
    • Bubble envelope
    • Manila envelope
    • Mylar envelopes
    • Postage handlers flat rate or provided envelopes
      • This is what I use to ship. You can get these and most packaging for free by visiting your local post office or by visiting the USPS postal store site.
  • For larger, heavier packages you can use any well structured, sealed cardboard box that is well fit to the package and in good, clean condition.

If you are going to be doing your labels at home you will need a two things:

  • A printer: Any at home printer will do. I will not suggest mine as I hate it and it hates me.
  • Label sheets: Half label sheets will be needed for most envelopes. Here is what I get.

Packaging

It is crucial to further package your items. Do not ship them loose in the shipping envelope. This is necessary for multiple reasons including:

  • The shipping envelope could potentially be damaged in shipping. Doing this can protect the product.
  • This helps preserve any scent when shipping worn garments. This helps prevent scents from escaping from the package as well when necessary.
  • Helps prevent warm garments from growing mold, bacteria, or ‘spoiling’

Some ideas of product packaging are:

  • Vacuum sealed bags.
  • Plastic zip locking bags
      • Tip: Double bag if you do this and press every tiny bit of air out you can before sealing for best results.
  • Sturdy, plastic containers that have a strong seal.
  • For larger or oddly shaped items, try and still seal them in something sealed to prevent damage such as these poly sealing bags

Privacy and Discretion Considerations

Client Discretion

When a client is ordering a physical item from you you need to be sure that a part of your process is asking what level of discretion they need. Some of our clients need complete and total discretion. Here are some steps you can take to provide that:

  • Plain package
    • No stickers, drawings, decorations
    • A standard mailer, in default colors, such as one from the postal provider
    • No handwriting anywhere. Get printed labels. Us girlies can all pin point a woman’s handwriting from two hundred yards away.
  • Minimal to no extras.
    • Extras are a fantastic thing to include to personalize, customize and enhance your package. However, to some clients, that thank you card may just as well be something they have to hide in the garbage to stay safe. Ask the levels of discretion they need and build your package around that.

Maintaining Your Privacy

Selling physical content provides a few risks to our safety and location anonymity as a seller. There are some steps you can take to protect yourself.

  • Use the buyers address as the return address.
    • If you use pirateship to get your shipping labels you will still be required to provide a phone number. No buyer will see this that I am aware of. It is just for the postal service in the case of a shipping issue. However, I use the number I received from Burner App as an extra safety layer. I will still be notified of issues, but its also not tied to me.
  • Be cautious when sharing tracking links.
    • Many creators will share a tracking link with the buyer once the package has shipped. It is fantastic proof of shipping, and it takes some of the responsibility out of your hands. BUT the buyer will be provided information regarding where the package was first accepted… Meaning the post office you drop it off at. They can be provided the city and zip code of wherever it was accepted. This is common with most major shipping services in the United States.
    • To prevent this and still maintain my buyers trust in the delivery, I do two steps.
      • I send my client a photo of me dropping the package into the mailbox the second I get back into the car. If you do this be so certain not to get any location identifying information in that photo. Don’t let that tracking link be seen, no addresses, no phone numbers, nothing. Or you can take a photo of the receipt showing you paid for the label at the post office. Be sure no personal information can be seen. Cut out any information about the post office address or location or phone number as well.
      • Then I let them know they can come to me at any time to ask for an update on the shipping and I will pull it up. If you do this you need to honor that statement. If a client comes to you and you can’t do it in that moment, You need to communicate that, and then remember to do so as soon as possible. This is significantly more work to do. But, it’s the only thing I could think of that was the safest for myself.

Extras & Customization to Consider

Once you know your clients discretion levels, you can base their package after that. If they have little to no need for discretion, it’s is a great time to pack your personality, your brand, and your style into a delivery. You can customize every aspect of this. From the package itself to what’s in the package. We asked the community to help with this and will tag the members next to their responses! Thank you to everyone for your help!!

Shipping Supplies

  • Think colorful mailing envelopes that match your branding or are the clients or your favorite color.
    • Do not attempt to customize or alter the label in any way. It must be able to be scanned and any alterations will lead to the delivery failing.
  • For packaging your product you can absolutely get some fun zip bags, or customized vacuum bags
  • Create a branded sticker to put on all of the exteriors of the packaging.
  • Things like packaging paper or filler should only be used when necessary. Remember, everything we send for packaging has to then be thrown away. That being said, when necessary, go ham with your colors and all that!

The Fun Stuff

There are so, so, so many things you can add into a package as extras! I am in no way going to be able to list them all or think of them all. Please hit me in the comment with more to add that you have ever sent or received.

  • A thank you card.
    • You can buy a pack of generic cards or have them custom printed
    • As for all extras, please ask before spraying any scent on anything. People have allergies, and it can disrupt the products scent.
  • A hand written thank you note (suggested by u/aurora-love).
    • Make sure this is customized with the buyers name or username (suggested by u/gemini_dra).
    • Slap a kiss with lipstick on this if ya want.
    • Throw some stickers on there if that’s more your vibe.
    • When signing, be so, so sure to sign your stage name.
  • Doodles or drawings
  • Memorabilia from a band or fandom you and the buyer have in common (suggested by u/casegonz after receiving a band pin).
  • Printed photographs of yourself
    • Sign this with your stage name to ‘watermark’ it and to add that personal touch
    • You can print these from your phone using a printer. I use this instant one from Kodak with this sticker paper. (u/bitchtitts6969 says they use Polaroids!)
  • ‘Business cards’ that could include:
    • Your brand name and logo
    • Your domain, link host, etc (even as a QR)
    • Where a buyer can submit a review of you
  • Custom stickers or die cut card stock.
  • Candies. (Suggested by u/goddessivy74)
  • Little figurines etc
    • Be certain to keep your cost of goods sold and profit margin in mind with everything.
  • Some creators will include things local to them such as local candies or foods. Be certain it is at most regional local. Not city local.
  • A card with a code for a discount to a fan or subscription site.
  • Crochet plushies (suggested by u/salt_plenty_2909), stained glass art, wood burning art (suggested by u/casegonz) or other handmade trinkets
  • Dude wipes or similar (suggested by u/casegonz)
